Carlos Skinfill

Carlos Skinfill is one of the finest drummers in contemporary jazz and worship style. He is a skilled
clinician, producer, composer, arranger and is among the young group of jazz musicians today who continually create intricate smooth jazz compositions.

Born in Toluca,México in 1975, Carlos Skinfill grew up with a lot of music around. His
mother who loved music and dance had hundreds of records and Carlos began playing
drums over the music of The Beatles and Frank Sinatra. Carlos is a self-taught drummer. He was a jazz devotee by age 12, which is when he started as professional drummer and keyboard player with a garage rock band called Propiedad Privada.  He learned how to play drums and develop his skills from drummer Hector Ordoñez “El Pistilo.”

Carlos worked with several pop and ballad singers for a while. He played with popular singers Musica Grupera. He performed in concerts and made recordings doing commercial music for radio stations with Jose Antonio y Los Sufridos.

After building a respectable musical career in Mexico with several bands like Sax, Zodiac, Fly,
Fantasia, Antara, Mandarina Show, Lider Show and Inside Out. In 1998 he arrived in Miami Florida. He worked as a producer with some projects like the first drum clinic in Toluca,Mex. of
“Dave Weckl”. In Mexico City he worked with Baby Lozano (Juan Gabriel Producer), C3 Rock Band and Carlos Sanchez co-producer and guitarist in RAICES (The First Album of Carlos) as drummer,
composer and producer.

Then Carlos founded LA PROMESA a Jazz Rock Band with a Christian message and performed songs composed and arranged by himself, with Felipe Barragan (Guitar) and Carlos Aguirre (Bass). They made a TV Show for CLARAVISION which was was broadcast worldwide. Later, Carlos joined Emmanuel Ortiz (Keyboard) and Carmen Fuerte (Sax ) to make the Jazz Trio called Jazze. They were playing with an acid jazz fusion concept doing local concerts and drum clinics.

Carlos participated in the first International Drum Fest in Mexico City with drummers like:
Pedro Galindo, Frank Colon, Hector Navarrete, Julio Figueroa, Derico Watson, Luis Conte,
Doane Perry, Nicko McBrian, and Alex Gonzalez.

After meeting his musical collaborator, Gio Ortega, Carlos moved to Canada and founded his own record label, Skinfill Entertainment Records. He and Ortega produced a project called Gio & Skinfill. They so far have two CD productions 7 DIAS and SAVE ME FROM MYSELF with worship in a jazz pop and funk style.

Once in Canada Carlos started a new stage in his music career. He focused on learning more about music, composing arrangements, and his production skills with professional musicians from all over the world. He is a part of The Sheraton Cadwell Group and The Philips Westin Orchestra. Thirty percent of all performance fees are donated to international agencies such as UNICEF, World Vision, Oxfam, CARE, Doctors Without Borders and The Red Cross through the Global Poverty Relief Foundation (www.gprf.net).

Their primary mandate is to support the fundraising activities of major charities and
humanitarian organizations dedicated to alleviating poverty in less developed communities
outside Canada.

Carlos has participated in several International Jazz Festivals as: Beaches International Jazz Festival and Corso Italia Festival.

He has performed in major TV Shows within U.S.A on NBC, Telemundo and Arauvision.

Carlos has six CD productions with songs composed and arranged by himself, that can be
find on iTunes and at some online music stores. He aslo has two DVD’s Keep Drumming (with Abe Laborial, Alex Acuna, Emmanuel Ortiz, and Martin Kuwawi) and Painting With Brushes.
