AVP, Research and Development

Responsibilities:
- The person in this position will be managing the design efforts, and working with conceptual team on new product definitions. A new product idea is typically not fully defined and there is usually a desire to have the product developed rapidly. The person in this position is expected to be instrumental in working with conceptual team to complete the product definition, optimize the utilization of resources and in establishing reasonable expectations.
- The person in this position will be responsible for finding the balance between the on-going support of released products and the development of new products. Building strong communication channels with Manufacturing and Customer Service is vital.
- In the area of new product development, if obstacles to meeting or exceeding the goals in a project plan should arise, they should be identified as early as possible and work around solutions should be identified and implemented. It is expected that the person in this role will work with the other managers and their respective personnel to achieve flexibility in adapting to changes in priority.
- It is expected that the person in this position will increase the overall productivity of the team, providing motivation and building the skills and technical knowledge of the team. This effort, accomplished through classes, seminars, inter-departmental training, communication and one-on-one support, will give each person on the team the ability to increase his/her knowledge and skill-set. This then gives each member of the group the tools they require to succeed in achieving their own individual professional development goals as well as established corporate objectives.
- The person will manage the RnD organization with emphasis on the China-based engineering team. The main job functions are:
- To manage a multi-national RnD organization to design new audio products from concept to mass production.
- To manage the RnD group, establish the product development processes, and to provide technical leadership to all Engineers.
- To participate in concept reviews and to help complete product requirement documents.
- Develop departmental goals, technology road maps, determine resource requirements, build competencies, and manage budgets. Work with conceptual team on new product opportunities and technologies needed to successfully grow in the business. Work with all areas within the company to continually enhance the product development process.
- Oversee the operation management to ensure communication between different RnD groups worldwide.
- Manage RnD employment review, promotion, and human resources development.
- Manage all RnD employees to make sure we provide a happy/team work working environment and to create an employment policy to fit the multi-national cultures.
- Cross department communication skill is required. These departments are RnD, operations, manufacturing, and conceptual group.
Requirements:
- BSEE a must and MSEE or higher degree is preferred
- Fluent in Chinese and English with deep knowledge of the Chinese and Western cultures
- Typically requires a minimum of 10 (ten) years of hardware/software design experiences in audio or related industry and five years of Engineering Management experience in China
- Normal office working conditions
- Some exposure to electronic technician type bench work
- Job may require hours that exceed 8 hours per day and/or 40 hours per week during peak periods
- Required to live in Zhongshan, China with some international traveling
